“WOW! I did this amazing helicopter trip as an add on to a tour I was on, over the Bungle Bungles. Even though it's expensive it's a trip I believe you can't miss as it's so spectacular. I was so excited about it & it lived up to all expectations and more. The safety aspects covered by the company were spot on from before we set out, our pilot Luke was so professional, friendly &safety conscious.

I loved the way we took off so gently & floated over the extraordinary landscape. Wear fitted shoes & take camera with a strap - no phones allowed for photo taking or anything that may drop out as there are no doors. We did the half hour option but you can go for a little shorter or longer. I'm not sure what age children would have to be so ask this question … not for little ones though. This is a must!” – TripAdvisor Review

Perfect Kimberley Tours for Seniors

Our Kimberley Walks

Bungle Bungle Guided Tours offer 3 main walks that showcase the best of the Bungle Bungle Range. The first guided tour explores Cathedral Gorge with an informative bus trip to the gorge in which you hear about the local flora and fauna of the area as well the history of the National Park. Once you get to the start of the walk, you bring your provided lunch with you and start walking up into the gorge. This walk is an easy walk with generally flat terrain and only around 3km return. The gorge walls provide great shade and a cool breeze as you walk to the end of the gorge. Once you get to the end of the short hike you can sit under the amazing natural amphitheater and enjoy lunch. On the way back, stop off and enjoy some ancient aboriginal rock art.
The other walk is a very similar difficultly level to the Cathedral Gorge walk, maybe slightly more difficult. Though exploring Echidna Chasm is quite a different experience as it ventures through a much tighter chasm where in places it rises 80 meters but is only a couple of meters wide. Echidna Chasm is an amazing location for photography. Because Echidna Chasm is located at the North-Western point of the Bungle Bungle Range, you get to experience a longer and more informative bus tour on your drive to Echidna Chasm.
Walk Difficulties
Bungle Bungle Guided Tours have designed tours that make the entire journey friendly for all ages. Because many tourists to the area are grey nomads, these Kimberley tours are for seniors. The walks are generally easy going, with very minimal sections where you move up and down. The guides who lead the walks and speak about the area are understanding and take it slow so everybody has time to take photos, drink plenty of water and take a rest if needed. There is a lot of shade during the walks which makes it much easier if you are finding the weather a bit warm. You will also feel the refreshing cool breeze traveling through the gorge.
See It From The Air
Located in the Purnululu National Park is Bellburn Airstrip, which is the base for both scenic helicopters and planes. From the base, you can experience a thrilling scenic flight which is another amazing East Kimberley tour. You can get great views on a fixed wing scenic flight from Kununurra which passes over the Bungle Bungle Range. These scenic flights can link up with a ground tour and a helicopter flight if you wish.

The Breath-Taking Echidna Chasm

Echidna Chasm is a gorge that is located on the Western side of the Bungle Bungle Range within the Purnululu National Park. The Echidna Chasm walk is one of the best experience within the Bungle Bungle Range as it is quite accessible to most people as it is an easy to moderate walk. There are a few rocky sections as well as some sand but overall is only moderately difficult. The distance of the Echidna Chasm walk is approximately 2km and it 1–2 hours return should be allocated.
Echidna Chasm is very different to the other popular gorge, Cathedral Gorge WA as Echidna Chasm is a much higher and narrower gorge. In some places, the chasm is as narrow as 1-metre wide while in the same spot can rise around 200-metres into the sky. This tight space allows for only a small amount of sunlight to get through, therefore allowing you to walk through the chasm in the shade and out of the harsh warm rays.
There is spectacular Flora through-out the chasm as it creates its own mini-climate. There are amazing Livistonia Palms that scale the sides of gorges all the way up to the 200-metre mark. The cool air within the chasm allows more plant growth to occur as a little tropical oasis. This walk is awesome for photographers as the colours of the chasm walls and large boulders that lie along the gorge floor make great pictures.
The car park at Echidna provides guests with shaded picnic areas as well as toilets. From the car park, it is only a short walk to the Osmand Lookout where you get great views to the North West of the stunning Osmand Ranges and stretches of vast Kimberley landscape. This lookout gives you a good appreciation of the type of environment up this region and how harsh it may be.
The Echidna Chasm walk can be done both with a guide of self-guided. Guided tours can be arranged with Bungle Bungle Guided Tours that depart from the HeliSpirit Base at Bellburn Airstrip. If you are driving into Purnululu National Park you there are 2 different camping areas where you can stay that both have toilet facilities. If you would prefer something a bit more luxurious then a stay at the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge is the go. With private cabins with ensuites, pool and a bar, the lodge is a perfect place to unwind after a big day of walking.
